In this tutorial (discussion?) I go over how to use the transform palette for adjusting points in type so that they are mathematically correct, as opposed to simple relying on the align palette. While it may seem tedious to do everything this way, which I agree it would be, it can be very helpful to be familiar with the transform palette in certain cases.
